Sony Photos has partnered with Studio CHIZU and Nippon TV to co-produce and co-finance “Scarlet,” the brand new animated characteristic from Academy Award-nominated Japanese director Mamoru Hosoda.

The movie will obtain world distribution by means of Sony Photos, with a U.S. theatrical launch deliberate for winter 2025. Toho will deal with Japanese theatrical distribution.

The collaboration marks Sony Photos’ first enterprise with Studio CHIZU, the animation studio co-founded by Hosoda and producer Yuichiro Saito in 2011. The movie’s producing workforce contains Saito, alongside Toshimi Tanio from Nippon TV and Nozomu Takahashi from Studio CHIZU.

“Scarlet” facilities on a princess who transcends time and house. The venture follows Hosoda’s “Belle” (2021), which premiered at Cannes and have become his highest-grossing movie so far.

Hosoda’s journey in animation started at Toei Animation in 1991. After directing “Digimon Journey” (1999) and its sequel “Digimon Journey: Our Struggle Sport!” (2000), he gained widespread recognition with “The Woman Who Leapt By Time” (2006). The movie captured the inaugural Japan Academy Prize for Greatest Animation and launched a string of profitable options together with “Summer season Wars” (2009), which earned him an Annie Award nomination for Greatest Director and screened on the Berlin Worldwide Movie Competition.

By Studio CHIZU, Hosoda has continued to increase his inventive imaginative and prescient with “Wolf Kids” (2012), “The Boy and the Beast” (2015), and “Mirai” (2018), the latter securing an Oscar nomination for Greatest Animated Characteristic Movie.

Studio CHIZU, established in April 2011, focuses on animated movie growth and manufacturing, with a said mission to discover new inventive territories in animation.
